Paul Turner - 28th August 1992
Paul was 18-years-old, single and a soldier with the Light Infantry holding the rank of Private who was shot in the chest by a single shot while standing in the main square in Crossmaglen, south Armagh.
A Provisional IRA gunman opened fire from a cemetery 200 yards away around 6:00pm as Paul was taking up position at one corner of the square.
Paul was murdered instantly by the force of the shot. He was still in the squatting position when he was declared dead. Paul was assigned to his regiment's 2nd Battalion and came from Herefordshire.
Paul’s shooting was the first in a series of sniper murders along the border.
