The first RUC officers killed during The Troubles in South Armagh were Constable Samuel Donaldson and Constable Robert Millar. They were killed on August 12, 1970, when their car exploded after they investigated an abandoned vehicle on the Lissaraw Road near Crossmaglen. Prior to their deaths, Constable Victor Arbuckle was the first RUC officer killed in the Troubles, though not in South Armagh.
