On this week's episode, Andrew shows off the balenaPlant prototype. A group of balena teammates joined to ask questions about IoT-powered plant growing and gardening. We also thought through potential uses of this project for hydroponics, aquaculture, and more.
We take a look at the parts needed, and what it takes to monitor your plants for optimal growing.
As for this project, anyone can try it out. Here are some helpful links:
* balenaPlant Github repo: github.com/balena-io-playground/balena-plant-saver
* a history lesson on the project via Forums: forums.balena.io/t/building-a-smart-houseplant-monitor-and-waterer/9170/20
We encourage folks to try the project out and let us know what you think.

![IoT Happy Hour #11: balenaFin: Survival in a Harsh Environment
On this weeks episode of balena.io #IoT Happy Hour were doing a live-streamed build and installation of a balenaFin with a senseHAT and balenaSense running on it. The balenaFin will be installed live on Davids roof in Phoenix, Arizona.
The goal of the experiment is to show you how to deploy an IoT device from scratch with balenaCloud and leave it in a real harsh environment.
balenaSense project [https://www.balena.io/blog/monitor-air-quality-around-your-home-with-home-assistant-and-balena/] enables your device (Raspberry Pi, balenaFin and similar) with a senseHAT [https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/sense-hat/] read temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, and air quality, and push this data to a Grafana dashboard that you can access from anywhere with balenaCloud. Internally it uses InfluxDB, Telefrag and MQTT.
