Quail is one third of Techno collective Animal Farm. Based in Glasgow, Animal Farm has been an outlet for quality Techno in the city for almost 13 years, bringing some of the biggest and brightest to the world renowned Sub Club, as well as Glasgow’s Art School where Animal Farm also hold a residency. These include Ben Klock, Marcel Fengler, Luke Slater, Marcel Dettmann and many more.
In recent years, Animal Farm has become a platform for a slightly different sound to anything else you’ll hear in Glasgow, thanks to a growing cult following. Their reputation has allowed them to book Scottish debuts for rising talents like Rodhad, Kobosil, Dax J, Abdulla Rashim and Etapp Kyle. Their eye for fresh, exciting sounds coming out of Europe has made Animal Farm nights a haven for those who crave a darker, more experimental edge to their Techno. In early 2013, Animal Farm made the jump from a club night to a record label, intent in bringing their style of techno to a bigger stage. Releases so far have come from Bleak, Michel Lauriola, Stephen Brown, Svarog, Ancestor, Kaiser, Setaoc mass & patricvk walker with 2017 shaping up to be AFR’s biggest year yet.
Quail has remixed for Tunnel & Roberto Figus on Etichetta Nera and the newly formed Circular Ltd with more forthcoming on Animal Farm. A mix of subtle
dub techno can be found alongside a darker, heavier edge. A DJ first and foremost, Quail can be found playing regularly throughout Scotland alongside label mates Turtle & Lamb, warming up and setting the atmosphere for his guests at Sub Club and The Art School. Recent travels have also seen him perform in world Techno capital Berlin at Suicide Circus, the South of Italy, Malta, Lyon & also at Stereo, Turin. Besides running his own record label, he is also part of the crew at Soma Records where he is an A&R and handles Press & Distribution.
Expect nothing but an onslaught in Quail’s DJ sets, as he moulds sounds from modern European and UK inspired Techno.
