Looking into one of the failed hard drives I had received that was shown alongside many others this WDC22500L. It performs a seek test at power-on and is recognizable to a system but that's about it. The drive has a major seek issue that it cannot seek to most of all the tracks and so is next to unusable. Most likely explanation is failure of the R/W heads or they're severely misaligned.
