In this video we discuss the history of Cairo Novely Marbles, Cairo property digs, and Cairo marble festivals with David Tamulevich. David describes the rise and fall of Cairo, the flood of 1950, and the factory re-discovery and former digging of the property grounds of this more obscure West Virginia Swirl company.
We take a quick look at the two older named Cairo marble examples : “Snake” and “Cloudy Day” as well as some more recent nicknamed Cairos and some examples unique to Cairo production.There will be a follow-up video coming soon of the complete nicknamed list as they are known today and a more in depth look at Cairo marble patterns, traits and identification tips.
We also explore and present some Cairo packaging, related games, dug cullet oddities and artifacts.
Twoards the end of the video, David Tamulevich describes the formation of the Cairo Marble Festivals which were held in Cairo, West Virginia from 1995 to 2015.These festivals were a big part of West Virginia marble history and brought out many of the region’s storied marble makers to meet and greet the marble collectors and fanatics of today.
