Introducing the Narasimhan International Chair in Mathematics | ICTP #ictp #sciencefordevelopment  @ictpchannel

ICTP announces the establishment of the Narasimhan International Chair in Mathematics, honouring the scientific legacy of M.S. Narasimhan and strengthening long-term connections between ICTP and the mathematics community in China.

Claudio Arezzo, Head of ICTP's Mathematics Section, explains the significance of the new Chair, the extraordinary legacy of M.S. Narasimhan, and the appointment of Professor Xiaohua Zhu as its inaugural holder.

Xiaohua Zhu is an internationally recognised mathematician whose research includes complex differential geometry, Kähler–Einstein metrics, complex Monge–Ampère equations and Kähler–Ricci solitons. He was awarded the 2005 ICTP Prize in honour of Armand Borel.

The official announcement takes place at ICTP on 2 September 2026 at 14:00, in the Budinich Lecture Hall, with online participation also available.
