Interpreting depositional environments from sedimentary rocks is a key skill for geologists. It requires solving a mystery - or getting as close as you can to solving it - by recognizing key features preserved in the rocks. In this video, I illustrate a roadmap for making reasonable interpretations. In other words, there are some good techniques for collecting and putting together the clues from observations in the rocks. I've written out this process here: geo.libretexts.org/Courses/University_of_California_Davis/UCD_GEL_109%3A_Sediments_and_Strata_(Sumner)/09%3A_Draft_Textbook/9.14%3A_Interpreting_Stratigraphic_Columns This is the page on the right side of my screen in the video.
