The International Wootz Society is launching today.
Whether you know it as fuladh, pulad, polat, fuladh, utsa, ukku, urukku, bulat or bintie, crucible steel has fascinated humanity for two millennia.
The IWS aims to serve smiths, researchers, collectors and all those interested in the production, history or identification of historical crucible steels.
For those who already make crucible steel, or aspire to learn to make it, the IWS offers testing and certification at the journeyman and mastersmith levels.
The IWS forums provide a central location for discussing, sharing and posting listings for both modern and antique crucible steel blades, as well as providing a much needed community space for all members.
