Since 2017, GCIC has supported 206 women-led and co-founded businesses through our incubator and masterclass programmes, equipping them with access, knowledge, and networks to scale impact.

$Kaeme: Female Carbon Savers | A Global Affairs Canada SURGE Program Story When Freda Obeng Ampofo was asked to abandon her premises with no warnings she had two choices: give up, or build something unshakable. She chose the latter. This is the story of Kaeme, a Cohort 6 incubatee of the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre (GCIC), an Ashesi University Institute, and the creation of Africas first shared ethical skincare manufacturing hub. With grant support from Global Affairs Canada through the SURGE program, Freda received targeted production equipment, including a mixing and homogenizing unit and a filling machine, enabling her to construct a zero-carbon facility on her own land, funded entirely through reinvested business revenue. Currently at 70% completion, the hub has 40+ independent beauty brands are already on the waiting list to access the shared production space, removing critical entry barriers for an entire generation of women entrepreneurs. Each of these brands will operate with a fraction of the carbon footprint required to build individual facilities.
