On 11 March 2026, the UN Women Knowledge & Partnerships Centre, with support from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, hosted the International Women's Day 2026 commemoration in Seoul. Under the theme "Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls," experts gathered to share concrete strategies for achieving true gender equality.

Ms. Soojung Kim is a prominent human rights lawyer in the Republic of Korea, widely recognized for her long-standing advocacy for women’s rights, survivors of sexual violence, and other socially marginalized groups. A partner lawyer at Jihyang Law Firm, she has spent over two decades at the forefront of landmark constitutional and public interest litigation, contributing significantly to the advancement of gender equality and substantive justice in Korean society. Kim is best known for her role in historic cases that reshaped Korea’s legal landscape, including the constitutional challenges that led to the abolition of the hojuje (patriarchal family head system) and the Constitutional Court’s ruling of unconstitutionality on the abortion ban. More recently, she served as legal counsel to Choi Mal-ja, the survivor at the center of the widely known “56-year MeToo” case, supporting the reopening of a decades-old wrongful conviction and sparking renewed public debate on self-defense, sexual violence, and institutional discrimination. Alongside her litigation work, Kim has served in advisory and committee roles at public institutions such as the National Human Rights Commission of Korea and the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission, where she has consistently advanced gender-responsive justice, victim-centered approaches, and structural legal reform.

On November 14, the UN Women Knowledge & Partnerships Centre in the Republic of Korea convened the UN Women Private Sector Forum: Care Service Innovation and Investment for Our Sustainable Future.
The Forum brought together private sector leaders from diverse industries—including construction, finance, investment, artificial intelligence, and research—as well as international speakers from across Asia. Discussions explored the role and potential of the private sector in transforming unpaid care into services, with a focus on senior care. They also examined ways to connect social value with business opportunities in the context of rapid population aging.
