Interlocking SR series. Part 4 #FairyLacefromElena
Split rings can do much more than simply connect two parts of a tatting motif. When they are interlocked during the actual construction, they can become the structure that holds the entire design together.
In this part of my Interlocking SR Series, I explore a four-shuttle technique with alternating colors. The result is a continuous interlocking structure in which each new ring becomes part of the previous one while also creating the starting point for the next element.
I especially enjoy how this method combines construction and visual design. Alternating thread colors makes the interlocking structure easier to follow and adds a beautiful rhythm to the lace, while using a single color can create a completely different, more subtle effect.
Techniques like this are especially interesting for creating connected motifs, decorative lace elements and more complex tatting designs. Once the principle is understood, there is plenty of room for experimenting with color, size and arrangement.
