Interlaken is NOT the most beautiful place in Switzerland. People keep praising this town being the most beautiful one in all of Switzerland, however, Interlaken clearly is not. There are many more beautiful towns and villages in Switzerland, Interlaken is just a favourite among tourists, many keep just repeating it. If Interlaken was the most beautiful place of Switzerland, people would be spending a lot more time in there, but instead, they are always visiting the places in the region. There are many reasons why Interlaken is a great place to go to as a tourist, but they are not enough to make it the number 1 among the beautiful places, not even into the Top 10 most beautiful ones. Interlaken is very touristy, all year but specially during Summer. The town will mainly be full of tourists, in fact, the town suffers then from overtourism. The roads are always full of cars, the tranquility feeling is not given in Interlaken. The most beautiful places of Switzerland are all rather tranquil instead of having a busy traffic. Interlaken was never voted the most beautiful Swiss town, even the locals do not claim their town being the most beautiful. Interlaken has a great hype and performs very well on Instagram, which makes it being a hotspot in Switzerland, yet it is overly hyped. What is more important to mention is that Interlaken is having many hotels and a strong tourism industry, which makes it a great place for people to spend their nights here and instead visiting the places nearby. In Interlaken, everything is targeted towards tourists, the town feels not very much Swiss, visitors will be stuck inside their tourist bubble. This is why Swiss people are not much fond of Interlaken. Because most of the tourists do stay in Interlaken and see the nearby summits, they often feel that Interlaken is the most beautiful town of Switzerland, rather confusing it with being the most convenient place to stay at. There are many more beautiful villages. I do not say Interlaken is not beautiful, I find Interlaken is alright but not a place to be mentioned for its beauty, in this regard, Interlaken is overrated. The place itself is fine, the nearby region however is fantastic. Go and stay in Interlaken and then head to the many places of the Jungfrauregion that offer great experiences, such as Lauterbrunnen, Jungfraujoch, Brienz, Thun, Iseltwald and so on.
