In this video, we’ll demonstrate how to use the Sailrite® HandyPress® to install spur grommets using the Stimpson® 405 Machine dies. The 405 Rolled Rim Spur Washer Tooling / Die requires that a hole be punched in the fabric assembly before the spur grommet can be installed. To punch that hole we will show the Handypress using the Sailrite® Drill Hole Cutter to do that first. Because the HandyPress comes with a sliding workbench with back fence and a cutting block you can punch holes in fabric or leather assemblies in the exact spot you want along an edge. Set the desired compression on the HandyPress by raising or lowering the upper shaft. Once it is set to your preference no further adjustments are required. Using the HandyPress, combined with these dies, it will consistently punch a hole and then set the spur grommet, even stainless steel ones, in your fabric assembly with a simple and easy pull of the hand lever. We call that process the "Sweet Spot" compression, similar to how a set of Vice-Grips™ work. Watch this video to see how to cut a hole and install a spur grommet in a fabric assembly.
