In this video I talk about installing Louisiana Pacific SmartSide paneling as interior siding of a garage over top of fire taped drywall. I forgot to mention it but the reason to strap the walls is to ensure you have good fastening points for the edges of the paneling. You should take some notes on wall studs and ceiling joists if you want to mount heavy duty brackets, etc., as you won't be able to locate them after adding the siding over top of strapping.
