Selvan Demir, Ph.D., leads a research group that does serious synthetic chemistry. But they also like to present their data artistically, in creative 3D vignettes that show metaphors for or potential applications of their creations. Demir is an assistant professor of chemistry at Michigan State University, where her group specializes in making exotic complexes with lanthanide ions to exploit their unique magnetic properties.
In recognition for her outstanding promise as a mid-career chemical researcher, Prof. Demir is the recipient of a Rising Star Award from the ACS Women Chemists Committee. She is being honored for this achievement at ACS Spring 2025, a meeting of the American Chemical Society.
