In November 2025, there was an opening ceremony for the University of Arkansas (UA) Power Group’s MUSiC fab (multi-user silicon carbide facility) in Fayetteville, Arkansas, U.S.A. It was heralded as a major milestone in Arkansas’ emergence as a center of excellence in semiconductor and power electronics technology, and its' role in enabling U.S. leadership in power electronics innovation.
EE Times was at the launch and Nitin Dahad caught some of the thoughts of key officials and participants at the opening on the significance of the fab for the state and for the nation.

- Peter Wilson, Visiting Professor, University of Bath U.K. and Juan Carlos Balda, retiree from the University of Arkansas;
- Margaret Sova McCabe, Vice Chancellor, Research and Innovation, University of Arkansas and Ardy Sidhwa, Chief Technology Officer, Pure Wafer.
In these interviews, you'll hear about some of background as to how the power electronics research started here many years ago, what the MUSiC fab means locally and nationally, how Cree (now WolfSpeed) got involved at the beginning, and the potential impact of MUSiC for power electronics research and innovation.
