(KUTV) He says he's not a rapper or a music artist. Yet a Utah Valley man's hip-hop album topped the charts.
"James the Mormon" came up with his name, not for his music, but after returning from his LDS mission to Washington State.
"Two days after my mission, I came home and said, 'I'm going to change everything to James the Mormon,' " said James Curran, 29.
Curran also says he's not a rapper, and that this is more of a hobby.
"That's why I say I am not a rapper. I don't want people to think that I'm pursuing rap other than a hobby."
But Curran's hobby is being taken seriously in the hip-hop world. His album, "I'm Not a Rapper," soared to the number one hip-hop spot on iTunes and number seven worldwide.
