Powel Crosley Jr. built an empire on the idea that ordinary Americans deserved good things at a price they could actually pay, and then he built himself a mansion that broke every one of his own rules. Pinecroft, his Tudor Revival estate on a hilltop in Cincinnati's Mount Airy neighborhood, was designed by New York architect Dwight James Baum with one instruction, to make the house look as though it had already stood for 400 years.
