Trying MCDONALD’S SHAMROCK SHAKE New York City
🎥 *Camera I use for filming – amzn.to/4rPWmtD
Is the Shamrock Shake actually good… or is it overrated? Today I’m finding out in the middle of Times Square, New York City. I head inside the iconic McDonald's and it is absolutely jam-packed. I order a medium original Shamrock Shake at the touchscreen kiosk (no Oreo or M&M versions allowed for this review — it has to be the classic), and I reveal the calories and the total price before grabbing the shake topped with whipped cream and heading back out into the chaos of Times Square for the first sip.
From there, I put the Shamrock Shake through my official eight-category scorecard, breaking down overall taste, mint level, sweetness, thickness, aftertaste, whether I would order it again, value for the price, and even a special NYC Weather Pairing Score. I also dive into the full history of the Shamrock Shake — when and where it was first created, who created it, what it was originally flavored, what its original name was, and how it grew into the seasonal phenomenon it is today. I talk about when it officially went nationwide in the United States and how it later expanded to Ireland and Canada, plus what ingredients are actually inside the shake.
Along the way, I share some fun cultural moments tied to the shake, including the temporary mascot Uncle O’Grimacey, the long-lost Irish uncle of Grimace, and the recent surge of fandom around Grimace and the New York Mets. I also mention the world record for most Shamrock Shakes consumed, the copycat low-calorie versions people make at home, and my own personal story of the first time I ever tried one — plus a college friend who was completely obsessed with them. As I walk through Times Square, I even touch on the misconception that New Yorkers are rude and how that stereotype plays out in real life.
Finally, I reveal my total score and honest verdict. Is the Shamrock Shake worth the hype? Is it overpriced in Times Square? Are there better dessert options elsewhere in NYC? I’ve been reviewing New York stores and classic NYC food spots, so I’d love your feedback. Do you agree with my rating? And what should I review next in New York City? Let me know in the comments.
