To mark the 250th anniversary of American independence, I’m exploring the surprising London locations that helped shape the United States.
From the Mayflower and the Pilgrim Fathers to Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, King George III, and even the Texas Legation, this walk uncovers the extraordinary American story hidden in London’s streets.
Along the way we visit:• The site linked to the first Virginia settlers• The pub tied to the Mayflower• Benjamin Franklin’s London home• The first American embassy in Grosvenor Square• Benedict Arnold’s final home• The place where Britain learned it had effectively lost America• The secret London HQ of the Republic of Texas• Statues of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and more
This is a story of pilgrims, presidents, revolution, betrayal, diplomacy, and friendship — all told through the streets of London.
