Canada has become a big player in the illegal wildlife trade. The trade is funding organized crime here and beyond our borders, an investigation by The Globe and the Pulitzer Center has found. But the issue is flying under the radar – propped up by vast wilderness, patrol blind spots and penalties so weak that for some traffickers, breaking the law is cheaper than compliance.
