In reality this is a standard General Motors Ignition cylinder lock used from the late 70's onwards for many, many years. AMC simply used it because they already shipped cars with BM steering columns.
The locksmith said these are tricky to rekey. Taking them apart at least certainly isn't.
UPDATE: Removing the pin retainer however is a different story. Once it's off, prepare to try to put it back in and keep it there!
