Do Youth Athletes Need Periodization?
๐ค Well..... Sort of.
In Season Training with the traditional periodization model, typically follows certain "Rules":
Limiting new exercises
Limit eccentric overload
Limit exposure to long muscle lengths
Limit training volume
Limit proximity to failure
๐ These rules can be important to follow when peaking performance especially for already well developed athletes.
However youth athletes experience less stress from training, recover faster, and are often limited by strength and size in their sport.
๐ So prioritizing max strength training for more time throughout the year may lead to better long term development.
