If you enter the radius of the Whomp time stops, then resumes when you touch the ground and the dialogue box comes up. If you manage to grab the pole (which is much harder than it looks) time will be stopped indefinitely. In order to make it to the pole you need to get a firsty and immediately dive off of the Whomp, and then you're barely able to make it.
Touching the ground at all after initiating infinite time stop brings up the Whomp's textbox.
