The Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) is actively pursuing flight trials of the indigenous Kaveri engine on a modified Tejas Mk1 Limited Series Production (LSP) aircraft. The upcoming flight tests will feature the afterburning Kaveri variant, generating approximately 73 kN of thrust, to evaluate the engine's performance and integration under realistic conditions
Flight Test PlatformGTRE, in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the Indian Air Force, is using an older Tejas airframe as a dedicated Flying Test Bed (FTB). Because the original Tejas airframe was designed around the Kaveri's dimensions, integration is highly efficient, minimizing structural modifications.
