The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet has one major advantage over KAAN: it is already a proven fighter.
The Super Hornet entered U.S. Navy service in 2001 and has been flying from aircraft carriers for more than two decades. More than 630 aircraft have been delivered, making it one of the most successful carrier-based fighters in service.
It is powered by two engines and has a strong landing gear and large wing designed specifically for carrier operations. It can perform a wide range of missions, including air-to-air combat, ground attack, strike and escort missions.
The Super Hornet is not a fifth-generation stealth fighter, but that does not mean it is outdated. Boeing and the U.S. Navy have continued to upgrade the aircraft to keep it effective against modern threats.
Block III: Giving the Super Hornet a New Lease of Life
The Block III upgrade is the biggest effort to keep the Super Hornet relevant for the coming years.
One of the most noticeable changes is the new Advanced Cockpit System, which includes a large 10 × 19-inch touchscreen display. The new cockpit gives pilots a clearer view of information and makes it easier to manage the aircraft's systems.
The fighter also receives better networking through systems such as the Distributed Targeting Processor Network (DTP-N) and Tactical Targeting Network Technology (TTNT).
Another important addition is the AN/ASG-34 Infrared Search and Track (IRST) system. It gives the Super Hornet another way to find and track targets without depending entirely on its radar.
