So I discovered that the value I'm currently using for the lock-on is also tied to the item that charge-up gives AI characters, so I wrote this little script that shows this.
It only gives you the item when your musou is full. I mapped the item I'm given to D-Pad inputs. Up gives me Life + 200, and Down gives me Attack x2. I like this, and I can map up to four D-Pad inputs, but it is really buggy though, because whenever I press up or down when my musou is full, I just get a bunch of items. I don't mind this that much because I don't ever use the D-Pad outside of menus, but this still just kinda irritates me.
Also, I know that when the AI does the actual charge-up, their musou gets set to close to full, but I haven't found out how to do this yet, so I just increased the musou recovery speed so I don't have to wait as long.

In this one, I completely let the AI take over and try to beat a stage (it didnt, unsurprisingly).
This AI is very buggy and not at all perfect. [DW4 MOD SHOWCASE] AI Gameplay at The Two Qiaos](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/9HeMadIbNYk/mqdefault.jpg)

You know youre bored when you start modding NES games.
Heres the code (not recommended on real hardware as it is longer than 3 lines.):

APPEEA
XTTAXE
XTTAUE

For some reason it counts your KOs, but not your officer kills. Also the Destiny Mode Edit Character cant move or attack and is stuck there t-posing. [Dynasty Warriors 5: XL] - What Happens When You Play as your Commander in Destiny Mode?](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/BbAMnKRXIkQ/mqdefault.jpg)
![[Dynasty Warriors 5: XL] - Nanman Guards in Xtreme Mode
A bit of niche knowledge about DW5XLs Xtreme Mode. For some reason, playing as Zhang Jiao gives you Yellow Turban troops, but inexplicably, playing as Meng Huo or Zhu Rong (or in my case, Ahui Nan) ordinarily gives you regular purple troops instead of Nanman troops.
And no, its not because of my mods. I tested it with patches disabled and they still have purple troops. There are functions within the games code that specifically load purple troops in Xtreme Mode battles whenever a commander is a Nanman officer.
