A bit of niche knowledge about DW5XL's Xtreme Mode. For some reason, playing as Zhang Jiao gives you Yellow Turban troops, but inexplicably, playing as Meng Huo or Zhu Rong (or in my case, Ahui Nan) ordinarily gives you regular purple troops instead of Nanman troops.
And no, it's not because of my mods. I tested it with patches disabled and they still have purple troops. There are functions within the game's code that specifically load purple troops in Xtreme Mode battles whenever a commander is a Nanman officer.

Heres how I make Lua scripts for Dynasty Warriors games. This is just the method I use, and there might be different (probably even better) methods.
Quick disclaimer: The addresses I used in this video only work for the NTSC-U version of DW4XL. If you want to do this for any other version of the game, you need to find different addresses.

This is one of my coolest projects yet. I made every useable NPC into a selectable companion, with the exception of characters with unusable movesets such as the Glaive, Club, Throwing Knives, etc. (There are officers with the Dao Moveset in the list because when you switch to them they get the normal sword moveset but performing an Extreme Musou with them will freeze the game. Zhuge Liang is there even though the War Fan isnt useable because I can give him the sword moveset when controlling him). Heres a list of cool features:
- Expands the list of selectable companions to include all Musou officers with player-useable weapons (and Zhuge Liang).
- All selectable characters have their correct weapons and a custom selection of Battle Arts.
- NPC Unique weapons have been altered to deal more damage and display their correct weapon icons.
- The companion timer has been extended from 30 seconds to 150 seconds (2.5 minutes).
- Normally the companion health bar is absolutely useless because it cant go below a certain value. With this mod, if you reach that minimum value it will force you into rage mode regardless of how much time you have left on the companion timer. Swapping to the companion officer resets their health to full. This makes the health bar much more meaningful.
Next, I plan on making the new companions replace other officers in-battle.")
