Lauren Neustadter is president of film and television at Hello Sunshine, where she has produced, among many other popular series, The Morning Show. She makes it her business to find the stories about women that need to be told in movies and on TV.

Neustadter took the leap from a major studio to Reese Witherspoon’s new company when Witherspoon called to persuade her to accept a job when she was seven-and-a-half months pregnant. “What was terrifying,” Neustadter said, “was how high-profile the job was. This would be the most public failure imaginable.” But she made it a priority to determine how well her tastes were aligned with those of the person she’d most closely be collaborating with, and found that they were in sync.

UCLA Anderson MBA student Eleanor McGee asked Neustadter her advice about finding the right fit in the right role with the right company. Neustadter observed that being offered an opportunity that seems high-risk can be high-reward, so take the leap if it has the potential.
