2025 was a year of shifting global dynamics. In a more complex and demanding environment, the role of development finance evolved, and the need for long-term investment has never been clearer.
At BII, we responded with action. We went further into frontier markets, strengthened partnerships, and mobilised private capital at scale, focusing on where our investment can make the greatest difference.
During the year, we committed £1.82 billion to businesses improving lives and protecting the planet. This included:
• Scaling climate finance: £827 million (45% of total commitments), supporting the transition to a low-carbon, resilient future
• Backing inclusive growth: £585 million invested with a gender lens (33% of total commitments), expanding opportunities for women
• Mobilising private capital: $1.7 billion alongside our investments, amplifying our impact
• Investing where need is greatest: £729 million in more fragile and lower-income economies
• Supporting jobs and taxes: Our portfolio directly supported over one million jobs, and our investees paid $5.5 billion in taxes
Beyond the numbers, this year’s report highlights the businesses and partnerships driving real change, from expanding access to clean energy and digital connectivity, to supporting jobs and livelihoods across Africa and Asia.
