In this week’s episode we cover:
1. Washing sweaters! When you have a "pile of knits to wash" do you wash every one as when you first blocked? Water/wool wash bath, lay flat and let it dry. I'm wondering how this works with multiple knits I feel like I would have sweaters all over the floor for days and days
2. My icord binding on my stockingnette stitch is curling. I’ve tried a row of garter before the cord and it still rolls. Any suggestions? Ps love your patterns and podcasts.
3. I'd like to knit your Comfort Fade Cardi with one of this year's Advents. I love the shawl collar & overall design, but was wondering what could be done to make the fronts wider for buttons? I'm an advanced beginner, this will be my 4th garment. Love your podcast & welcome back to MI! Hope you brought a lot of snow this season!!!!
4. Hi Andrea! Your podcast made me feel interested in starting spinning (as well as buying gorgeous handspun yarn from Almas, aka witchcraftylady on Instagram and Etsy). I have an Ashford espinner (would love a wheel, but not much space). My question is about spinning Aran weight or thicker yarn (mainly bulky). Do you have any tips? I know I could do several plies of thinner yarn, but I would prefer to spin a two ply or even singles to knit with. It isn't very elegant seeming, so it feels like most spinners don't aim for it. Basically, I buy single colour dyed fibre from World of Wool and spin it as a way to explore colour. Is this something that is manageable? Are there specific fibres that are more amenable to it (e.g. based on staple length or crimp level)? I am guessing merino is a bad choice, because it compacts so much--it is what I've tried so far. But there's some dyed Corriedale and I'm wondering if that's a better bet! Thanks so much. Also I love the combination of your yellow sweater and the green walls in this week's recording!
5 . Hey, as always I enjoyed your podcast and definitely await a studio tour. Did I hear you say you have an electric ball winder? I have one and I struggle so much with yarn slipping off the ball when I’m winding. Do you have any tips for creating the perfect cake? Maybe a demo video of how yours is set up???? I’ve invested a lot of money in this machine, and I’m struggling to love it.
Bonus: I was talking with a friend who recommended that I reach out to you. I've been recently diagnosed with Celiac disease and am a passionate sourdough bread baker! This is quite a lot to take in. I'm curious if I can still continue to handle and bake bread or if doing so exposes me to gluten. Any info or advice you can share would be much appreciated. I'm not a knitter, although my Grandma definitely was, but your designs are absolutely gorgeous.
