Sushma Mohan is one of the commissioned artists for DANCE IN THE DISTRICTS by the DCA and the Los Angeles Dance Workers Coalition.
As part of the program, Sushma and her group will present ILIDU BAA TAAYE, a Kannada composition by poet Da Ra Bendre.
The song is a selection from the Dance production APAHA (pronounced U-pu-h-uh) meaning “WATER” in Sanskrit, co-relating the stories of divine rivers GANGA (pronounced Gun-gaah) and LOS ANGELES river. This song is a prayer to the river goddess Ganga(Gun-gaah) where the dancers request the divine river ganga to come down to earth to purify human beings and to bless mankind. The choreographer/director Guru Sushma Mohan has used the popular and beautiful locations in Canoga park, the birth place of Los Angeles river as the song’s backdrop
Guru Sushma Mohan is the Artistic Director/Founder of Soorya Foundation for Performing Arts, founded to preserve, protect and promote Indian traditional performing arts in the USA. The foundation provides a platform for traditional dancers through its free annual dance festivals in LA, produces dance works that bind the community and paves a path for creativity, and trains students of all ages in traditional dance and music.
