Many years ago when I started teaching in Japan, a student gave me a cassette tape with many popular Japanese songs, and "Ii Hi Tabidachi" became one of my favorites. So I was a bit sad to hear that the writer of the song, Shinji Tanimura, passed away recently (October 8). He wrote songs for other singers, and Momoe Yamaguchi had the biggest hit with this one. I felt moved to give this song a try, and I'm always worried whether my poor Japanese will be obvious, but I gave it my best shot. Hope you like my rendition. RIP Mr. Tanimura...
