Surprisingly, it was a snowy day in Yokohama, and that usually puts me in the mood for singing and playing the ukulele. I managed to record three songs before lunch, so it was a productive morning!
I first heard the Herman's Hermits version of this song first, but I think Skeeter Davis had the first big hit with this song, written by Arthur Kent and Sylvia Dee. According to Wikipedia, Dee, the lyricist, drew on her sorrow from her father's death to set the mood for the song. My mother passed away a few months ago, so perhaps it's the reason I chose to do this song. Nothing to do with the coronavirus pandemic, which I suppose to some people feel like an apocalyptic event. We'll get through this strange time. Everybody stay safe and try not to be part of the chain of spreading the virus.
