If your baby is waking at 5:00 AM every morning, it’s usually not random. and it doesn’t automatically mean they’re an “early riser.”
Here are the 3 most common reasons:
🌅 1. Bedtime is too late (or they’re overtired).
An overtired baby often has higher cortisol levels, making them more likely to wake in the early morning hours when sleep is naturally lighter.
😴 2. They’re relying on sleep associations.
If your baby needs rocking, feeding, or another form of help to fall asleep at bedtime, they may also need that same help when they wake at 5:00 AM instead of linking another sleep cycle.
🕰️ 3. Their schedule needs adjusting.
Too much daytime sleep, too little daytime sleep, naps that are off, or an age-inappropriate wake window can all contribute to early morning wake-ups.
The good news? 5:00 AM wake-ups are often fixable once you identify the real cause.
