If there’s one guitar that tells the story of Oasis… it’s this one. 🎸🔥
This 1960 cherry red Gibson ES-355 was one of Noel Gallagher’s favorite guitars from 1996 through 2011, played on stage and in the studio, from Wembley Arena’s Don’t Look Back in Anger to his acoustic set at Koko in Camden. Bought in Paris, it even shares the same build date and consecutive serial number as Noel’s very first ES-355.
But on 28 August 2009 at Rock en Seine, this guitar became the centrepiece of one of the most infamous moments in rock history. After a backstage fight, Liam Gallagher grabbed it and smashed it, knowing it was one of Noel’s most treasured instruments. Hours later, Noel walked away, Oasis was finished, and an era of British music was over.
Restored in 2011 by master luthier Philippe Dubreuille at Noel’s request, the guitar still carries the weight of that night. And now, with Oasis reunited and back on tour, its significance has only grown — both as a symbol of their rivalry and as a reminder of their legacy.
