IDF soldiers can face legal threats and other dangers when traveling abroad. Shurat HaDin built a new app to help them prepare.
In this interview with The Media Line, Shurat HaDin President Nitsana Darshan-Leitner explains why the organization created SHACHPATZ, a platform designed to help protect IDF soldiers and Israelis traveling around the world.
The app provides guidance on precautions to take before leaving Israel, what to do if questioned or arrested abroad, security and travel alerts, and contact information for Israeli embassies and consulates.
Users can also reach Shurat HaDin's Legal War Room, a network Nitsana says includes 600 lawyers across 17 countries who can provide initial legal assistance if something happens.
SHACHPATZ also works as a community network: travelers can alert other users about problems they encounter abroad and share information about places that may pose risks — or that are welcoming to Israelis.
