This song is for every street child that goes unrecognised . Those that are abused, exploited, have no family, no love, no childhood, and those who never get help and don't make it to adulthood . I wrote and recorded this back in 2014, but the current state of this world has made me return to it today.
UNICEF and other organisations do a great job, but now with the pandemic , it's harder than ever for these kids that are suffering throughout this world.
. Lyrics
Little boy sitting under a melancholy sun
Your life of almost eight years, has never quite begun
Dirt and dust on your torn, sore little feet
Swat away the flies in this burning, mid day heat
Hunt your treasure dump..to buy your daily bread
Scratch for a place to rest your weary head
And who will help you read a book today
Teach you how to write your name and show you how to play
And who will care when the sun goes down
And you're all alone, in this ragged town
Your life is what it seems..so just for a while..slumber away In a night filled with ice cream and Coca Cola dreams
Little girl, sitting under a melancholy sun
Your thoughts filled with pretty clothes, perfumed sheets and girly fun
Innocence left before you'd turned thirteen.
No prince is on his way, no talk of beauty queens
Wipe the grime from your angel face, put on that dress of soiled , filthy lace
And who will wash the tears away from your empty eyes
Move the dirty needles from where your head will lie
Maybe you'll be lucky, and he'll treat you like a lady for the day
Your life is what it seems..so just for a while..slumber away
In a night filled with ice cream and Coca Cola dreams
And who will, kiss the endless pain away
Feed your minds and aching bellies for the day
And who will listen to your haunted cries
Your lives are what they seem..so just for a while...
Slumber away , in a night filled with ice cream and Coca Cola dreams.
