Since I've longplayed Chuck Rock, of course it would make sense for me to play it's bootleg hacks, both of which are based off of Ice Age, starting with Ice Age 3. And yeah, I was originally gonna play the bootleg hack first for the channel, but one of my friends suggested me to play the original first and then the bootleg hack, which it was honestly better doing it like that since I had to get used to the original game first.
This hack is well, a simple graphic hack of Chuck Rock, replacing Chuck Rock with Scrat from the Ice Age films. And I gotta say, it doesn't look that bad! I mean sure, it probably looks out of place, but at the same time I do find it fitting, given the Ice Age films are probably set in prehistoric times as well. Scrat's sprites are actually taken from an Ice Age Java/J2ME game called Ice Age 2: Arctic Slide, and the sprites from that game not only fit this game pretty well, but it would be pretty fitting for a Sonic game too.
Though like most bootleg hacks on the Sega Genesis, of course it wouldn't be complete without palette issues, though the only palette issues I found is the HUD and the rocks, otherwise the palettes aren't completely messed up. I also find it odd that the health meter is a jug containing the red substance that is the health, but they would later change it back to a heart in Ice Age 4.
Another reason why I feel this hack makes sense, is that there's a sabretooth tiger and a mammoth as bosses in Chuck Rock, and given that the Ice Age films have both of those things as the main characters, it all sorta blends well together. Though I do find it funny how it seems like Scrat is fighting the main characters from Ice Age in that regard, and yeah, I say main characters, because I rarely ever sat through the Ice Age films, and I feel like I should.
Unlike most Sega Genesis bootleg hacks done by TOF, I feel like this one probably makes the most sense, given most of the things I listed above, and this is certainly much better than the first Ice Age bootleg hack that was a hack of Awesome Possum, and well... we don't talk about that one. I mean, it's Awesome Possum, I'd rather not talk about that game, but it does seem like TOF has improved from their mistakes with this hack, especially since it came out a year after.
