Recorded during the White Album sessions between 16 and 17 September 1968, take 65 of ‘I Will’ not only captures the basic track of the final song, but also one of the band's most intimate and unplugged moments.
Among them was take 19, which was an improvised song based on the phrase ‘Can you take me back?’.
This version presents the song in its purest form: an acoustic trio performance with Paul McCartney on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Ringo Starr accompanying with a subtle rhythm, and John providing the perfect percussion for the song. George Harrison does not appear on this take, reinforcing the simple and personal atmosphere of the session.
One of the most distinctive elements is Paul's vocal bass, sung rather than played, which replaces the traditional bass and gives the song a warm and organic foundation. Another voice was then added to provide harmony on the backing vocals and lead acoustic guitars.
