Turn a simple piece of Dollar Tree fall fabric into a beautiful handmade journal! In today’s tutorial, I’m using Dollar Tree sunflower fabric to create two fabric-covered journals—one to keep for my own memory keeping and one that is available in my Etsy shop.
I’ll show you how I use Heat n Bond Lite to attach scrapbook paper to the thin Dollar Tree fabric, add a ribbon tie closure, sew and distress the fabric edges, arrange a mixture of papers, and bind the journal using a five-hole pamphlet stitch.
Inside the journal, I’m including plenty of tea-stained paper for photos and memory keeping, along with office papers, notebook paper, music paper, old book pages, scrapbook paper, and a paper bag pocket. I love combining practical writing space with interesting vintage and decorative papers so the journal is ready to be personalized.
The finished journal measures approximately 9 inches tall by 6 inches wide. The sunflower journal available in my Etsy shop also includes coordinating handmade ephemera shown at the beginning and end of the video.
