I only have ONE DAY to explore Valletta, Malta — so just how much of this incredible historic city can I see before I have to leave for the airport?
Join me for a full day exploring Malta's beautiful capital as I attempt to visit as many of Valletta's famous sights and attractions as possible.
My original walking tour was cancelled at the last minute, so instead I created my own route around the city and set off to see what I could discover.
After travelling across from Sliema on one of Malta's traditional boats, I begin at the Triton Fountain before heading through Valletta City Gate and into the historic centre.
During the day I explore Republic Street, Hastings Gardens, the National Museum of Archaeology, St Augustine's Church, Republic Square, the Grand Master's Palace, Fort St Elmo, the Siege Bell War Memorial and the Saluting Battery — where I'm there just in time to watch the cannon fire.
I also discover some incredible views across Malta's Grand Harbour, experience a few unexpected surprises and eventually find time for some much-needed food and a couple of very reasonably priced beers!
