Today I'm taking on the UK's longest direct train journey, a gruelling 11 hour trip covering nearly 700 miles from Aberdeen to Plymouth. CrossCountry trains are frequently claimed to be some of the worst on the British railway network, infamous for their cramped Voyager carriages, extreme passenger overcrowding, and notoriously expensive rail fares.
I booked a CrossCountry First Class ticket for this marathon route to see if the premium price makes this worn out diesel train any more bearable.
