We hit 650 subs on Twitch in September, and I'd set a milestone to do "10 kickflip attempts a day for a month." More Info on that here: bit.ly/3Hqj4S8

So this video was supposed to be 30 days, but I can't count. I had to leave town a couple times.

Anyway, I'm pretty comfortable getting around on a skateboard. I used it to get to and from work + school throughout middle school, high school, and 5/6 years after.

I'd never actually taken the time to sit down and try to learn to Kickflip. It just never interested me, and I didn't have friends who skated.

I thought having this as a sub goal would have been a good opportunity to get closer to learning how to do one consistently.

I learned a lot doing this video:
1. Limiting myself to 10 tries a day was a bad idea. Once I started to get warmed up and get the feel of it around the 7th or 8th try, I'd have to stop shortly after.
2. Most days I'd do 12 or 13, some I did 18-20 tries, but I cut out a lot to keep the video short.
3. Holding on to something while trying to kickflip would have been much better to start doing from day 1.
4. Doing this on grass, or on a mat, or "skate trainers" would have been a much better approach from day 1.
5. Some days I really didn't want to do kickflips. Most of these were recorded during lunch break (WFH), and I was still super stiff from waking up and sitting at a desk all day with no warm ups. I got in the habit of ollie'ing at least 5 times before starting kickflip attempts, but it only did so much. It also let me fall into bad muscle memory habits.
6. After day 9, the battery died on the camera, so I went inside and peeked at the footage while charging it and realized we needed a full body shot.
7. Also when peeking at the footage it helped me recognize what I was doing wrong at the time. I should have continued to look at the footage more frequently, because watching myself is way beneficial in its own way to see what I'm doing wrong.
8. I didn't want any outside help. I tried watching a "how to kickflip" video on day 3 and it made me less consistent.
9. I made it a point to try and flip the board and land on it with my back foot, then my front foot, so i could eventually do both at the same time. Once I could flip the board consistently, I got in the muscle memory of just flipping the board, immediately bailing (not committing), and not concentrating on getting both feet back on. If I had watched video of my attempts I would have easily seen that and it might have been easier to break that habit.
10. I started on Oct 1st and Halloween was Oct 31st so I thought that was my last day and I really wanted to land one esp in the banana outfit, that's why there are so many more tries shown in the vid.
11. I went back and counted the days I was out of town and did more kickflips for another 5 or 6 days and somehow I still ended up with 28 days instead of 30. Oh well, I think the video is long enough and shows enough progress anyway.

This is an entirely new take on my youtubes content and I hope y'all enjoy it. I know there will be lots of keyboard warriors saying how awful and slow I am with progress, but this is how learning goes for anything (not just skateboarding) without any outside help and I'm not afraid to put myself out there.

If you're new to the channel, I stream (mostly extreme sports games) on twitch 3 times a week and am really active with video game playthroughs, challenges, hanging out with the community, and uploads here and on twitch.
