I Trained for Cocodona Like a Runner This Time…  @runsingletrack

We’re about a week away from the Cocodona 260 and I’m wrapping up a fundamentally different training block for this year’s race.

In 2024, I mistakenly brought a thru-hiking playbook to a trail running game — the 200-mile distance had evolved that fast. So this time around, I focused on becoming a better runner and put myself in a few proxy races to simulate what it might feel like to battle for position on the Coconino Plateau with 15–20 miles to go.

This clip is from the Buffalo Run 50 Miler this past March (check out the full vlog on our YouTube channel). @shitinthewoods was my pacer and field general, helping me dig deep and gain valuable experience responding — rather than reacting — to the gradual unfolding of a race at the front.

Ultimately, @proctor2k outclassed and outkicked me for the win, but it was mission accomplished on many levels. I’m heading into Cocodona with higher risk tolerance. We’ll see…
