I finally got to experience the Thorsborne trail of Hinchenbrook Island of far northern queensland.
I was supposed to do the trail as a birthday present to myself 7 years ago but as with things in life it got shelved until now.
It is my birthday on the 16th.
It was definitely worth the wait but Good grief it was harder then I had envisaged. I did a lot of preparing for the trek. Lost a heap of weight etc to try and get fit for the adventure.
I hadn't envisaged rock hopping as much as I had during the trek and that was the killer. I think I sweated litres during each section of the trail and I can be thankful that it wasn't that dry that it could have seriously affected my experience. It was getting close and as you could see from my first stop for water it was looking grim. I spent a lot of my time while walking trying to regulate my breathing as it seems that was the one thing that wanted to bring me down so what you didn't see was me in a lot of uphill climbs was me doing very small baby steps and stopping every few steps so as not to over stretch myself. Missing a part of ones lung does seem to make quite a different to ones endurance levels.
I ate very little and had to force myself to eat which I found curious and only ate around 500 grams of mixed nuts and two dehydrated meals the whole trip. I know I should have eaten more but my body wasn't interested.
Being by myself with no outside influence and motivation was interesting as it was just me to motivate myself all the way. There were time when I'd reached a point where I was ready to dump my pack and one of those times was when I was walking top of the ridge in the blazing sun. I swore a lot out loud when everytime I thought I was headed down the mountain I would round a bend and BOOOM the trail headed back up the hill.
As it was and as you can see I survived and the experience was definitely worth the highs and lows and I hadn't realised how much it had affected me until I started doing my summary video on the last morning of being on the island and towards the end I became quite emotional and had to redo the video once I'd collected myself. I thought it best not to put it in the video so that I looked like a blithering idiot but I'd become totally emotional about the experience and it may have had something to do with being by myself and no one to share the experience with. Anyhooo!
If you have got through this video and shared my once in a lifetime experience then thank you for watching.
I'd recommend this trek to anyone who is able to do it because it really is an absolutely amazingly beautiful, untouched place.

Sorry about the quality of the video but because it is a long video it's hard to shrink the file without loosing quality. This is the best I could do.
