Stray Along The Way | I raced a professional trail runner up Table Mountain @Strayalongtheway | Uploaded June 2017 | Updated October 2024, 11 hours ago.
Sorry for the re-upload. The last one had some sound issues....
Those of you who know me will know that I'm not that good at running. Despite the fact that I have a runners build (tall and skinny) I don't quite have a runner's temperament - so it came as a surprise to me when I decided it would be a good idea to challenge a local professional trail runner to a race up Table Mountain.
I figured it would be a great way to experience Cape Town's Natural Wonder of the World a little differently as well as test my skills against an actual trail-runner.
To make things "interesting" we decided that the last one to touch the cairn at the top of the mountain would have to take a dip in the frigid Atlantic Ocean. Anyone who has swum in Cape Town will tell you that, that is not an attractive offer.
At the time it seemed like a great idea, but as race-day approached it became obvious that I was well out of my depths and I needed to make a plan quickly.
Check out how I managed to turn the tables, and give Meg Mackenzie a run for her money.
