Half the keys on this SAM Coupé had completely stopped working. Not intermittent. Not pressure related. Just dead.
So what should have been a simple keyboard repair turned into a full strip down, deep clean, membrane replacement, and rebuild.

In this video I repair the failed keyboard on a Miles Gordon Technology SAM Coupé, replace the original membrane, explain why membrane keyboards fail over time, clean every part of the keyboard, and rebuild the entire assembly with a brand new membrane.
Along the way I also discover some very unwelcome little visitors hiding inside the machine.

The SAM Coupé was released in 1989 by Miles Gordon Technology. It is a Z80 based British home computer with proper RGB output and some genuinely ambitious ideas, even if it arrived a bit late.
