When 18-year-old college freshman Anni experienced severe night sweats, extreme fatigue, and a dangerously low white blood cell count, she thought she was just struggling to adjust to school. Instead, she received a devastating Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL) diagnosis that forced her to leave her new life behind.

In this powerful story on @thepatientstory, Anni opens up about the terrifying reality of navigating young adult cancer. She details the grueling nine months of chemotherapy involving arsenic treatment, the painful physical side effects of differentiation syndrome, and the intense isolation of fighting for her life while her friends were away at college.

Despite the heavy physical and mental toll, Anni refused to let her condition define her. With the help of her service dog, Goose, she returned to school during her treatments, ultimately ringing the end of treatment bell and finishing her semester with a 4.0 GPA.

Thank you, Anni, for sharing your story to help others.
